During last month, when you entered into the Student Hall, the first thing that caught your eyes was the advertisement screen, which was nearby the desk, displaying uniformed guys. It was the publicity activity for the ROTC, which is held every March.

The ROTC stands for Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, which drafts university students for two years of military service during their school years and when they graduate from the school, they receive a commission and get to work as an officer. The recruitment was held for four weeks from March 2nd through 26th. Until last year, only the sophomore could apply to be a ROTC. However, this year, freshmen could also sign up to be a member, as they are selecting half of a fixed number of students in advance.

The first thing that applicant needs to do is register on the online website and sign up for some of the paper work needed. After taking the written examination, only a certain number of candidates get the chance to go to the next step. There is a physical examination, an examination of physical strength and an interview evaluation waiting for them. Only a small number of applicants finally get the honorable chance to be a ROTC.

A lot of students who were interested in ROTC have signed up for recruitment. Last year’s competition rate was 1:5.1, and it is expected to be similar or a bit higher than that of last year, since the new opportunity for freshmen has opened.
