What do you do in your free time? Are you looking for an activity that enhances both physical and mental health? Here is a great way to enjoy your youth while spending much less money than any other activities. Hiking a mountain is the best way to do it. It might sound difficult and tough, when you hear the words, ‘Hiking.’ But when you try it out, you will be fascinated by the happiness and joy that nature offers you.

As we all know, more than seventy percent of our landscape is formed by mountains. Even the heart of Korea, Seoul is not an exception. There are a number of famous mountains that are located in Seoul which enable you to see beautiful scenery and enjoy nature. Out of the many mountains, I hiked Woomyun Mountain which is located in the center of the city. The height of the mountain is 293 meters with a gentle slope, which is the part of the reason why I chose it. It is an easy hiking course for those who are in beginner level.

There are several ways to hike the Woomyun Mountain. The most popular course starts from back side of the Seoul Arts Center. In the beginning part of the climbing, there were many couples, families and friends that seemed to have come out to enjoy hiking in the nice weather, after long days of the hot summer. As I followed the footsteps of early hikers, sweat started to cover my body even though the mountain air was cool.

I thought of myself as a healthy person who exercises often, but hiking the mountain required much more strength and endurance than expected. While sweating and making an effort not to overcome the physical challenge, I heard the wonderful sound of nature. The sound of bird’s chirping and the leaves rustling let me forget the fact that I was in the center of Seoul. It felt as though I was free from ordinary life and being enfolded into Mother Nature. Even though climbing all the way up to the top of the mountain was not easy, the sensation of being in nature filled me with excitement.

A full view of the city stretched out as I was looking down from the top, creating an strikingly exotic view. It was a tough hike to the top, however, the view from above made me feel that it was worth it. It usually takes two hours in total to complete the hike. You can spend those two hours enjoying every moment. Here are some other famous mountains and hiking routes in Seoul that can be easily reached by using public transportation. In Korea, there is famous saying that states, ‘There is no bad person out of the people who like mountains.’

It means that when people climb mountains and view the beautiful scenery from above, breathe in the fresh air, and listen to the sounds of the nature; their minds get cleansed and calmed. Instead of spending leisure time doing similar things over and over, hiking mountains can be a unique experience, especially when you want a variation from your usual routine.

You should check the famous mountains out, since the beautiful scenes of the nature will soon turn spectacular with the upcoming autumn!
