To tell the truth, even though I am the Editor-in-Chief of The UOS Times, I never thought my English ability was good enough. This is because I have met many students who were very fluent in English even though English was not their mother tongue. I have been surprised that there are numerous people who really enjoy what they are doing and have achieved certain noticeable results, not only in spoken English, but also in other areas. I wonder how they motivate themselves to achieve these progresses, because they do not seem much different from me.

The difference starts from small things. I wrote in the last issue of the magazine that I decided to be different from my past, and focus on the present. But I did not start anything yet! I do not want to say that I was too busy to begin something new because I know that it cannot be more than just an excuse. Even though I felt I had been busy, I had plenty of time to watch Japanese animation from the beginning to the end. Of course, it could be a sort of a start, however, I mean doing something more productive.

This time, I took the responsibility to write the Cover Story. The theme of it is volunteer work of our youth, which I recommended in the meeting. I have thought that volunteer work would be a very novel experience, but I could not make up my mind to start it. While writing this article, I realized that it would be very hypocritical to persuade you to do volunteer work if I do not even do it! Therefore, I finally made up my mind. It has only been a couple of weeks since I started, but I am already facing some struggles. This column is a kind of a magic contract for me to keep going with my promise. Please remember that all of you are the witnesses of my promise.

I want to add that even though I emphasized the importance and necessity of practice, more significant is your capability. When I first took charge for managing the entire magazine, I declared that I would not write any articles. I know that it looked selfish or irresponsible. However, being an editor requires more abilities and responsibilities than a reporter. That is why I announced the fact that I would not write articles.

However, this time I did not have any choice but to write the Cover Story. Eventually I made it; chasing two hares at once. Despite of the tough challenge, it helped me to develop. When you start something new, you may suffer similar situation like I did. Do not give up if you face any obstacle in the future because it can be a stepping stone to you.
