On Oct. 30, the eighth lecture with an invited author, hosted by Main Library, was held in Mirae Hall B203. The author invited was poet Jeong Ho-seong. UOS students packed the huge classroom to listen to his lecture titled ‘An encouraging word in my life.’ He introduced his favorite lines to students. He also told them what lesson each line gave him. One of them was “A squirrel is small but is not the slave of an elephant.” He said this means that everyone has their own property so they do not have to feel inferior to others. During the lecture, Jeong recited a poetry that he wrote and explained the meaning and the background of it. Therefore, students enjoyed a meaningful time. After the lecture, a question and answer session was held.

The UOS Times met up with a student who took part in the lecture. Lee Eun-ji (Dept. of International Relations, 11’) said that she wanted to get healed and comforted. She said she was struck by one of Jeong’s poems called ‘To Daffodils.’ This was her first time to listen to a lecture of an author, and the lecture was very satisfying because she gained confidence from it.
