▲ Before and after of the Birch Hall

On March 11, the Birch Hall (Jajakmaru) held a building dedication ceremony, which was attended by 40 to 50 people  including the President of UOS, professors and some students, such as the President of the Student Council, the Club Union President and the Student Presidents from every department. Of the Student Council The ceremony consisted of a congratulatory message, a report on the proceedings and an inspection of the hall. The original hall, which was built in 1937 with one floor and a total floor area of 452m2, had hosted many performances and concerts.

The construction work lasted seven months, from July 2012 to February 2013. The remodeling was designed by Lee Chung-gi, a professor of the Dept. of Architecture. The heating equipment and fire protection system were reinforced through this construction. Moreover, the ceiling which covered the inner structure of the roof was removed, and the wooden roof was exposed. Therefore, people who use the hall can feel the original beauty of this facility.

There was a controversy during the alteration of the hall about whether the purpose should be changed from showing the performances to a meeting room for professors. However, Birch Hall’s original usage has not changed. Thanks to this remodeling, people who use this hall can expect to enjoy performances of better quality.
