At the University of Seoul (UOS), there is a small world called the ‘Global Lounge.’ The Global Lounge is a place where students can meet foreign students from more than 20 different countries.

The Global Lounge was established to encourage the mutual exchange of languages and cultures. Since exchange students from many countries visit the Global Lounge, you can meet new foreign friends there. It was formerly located in the Liberal Arts Building, but it has been relocated with all of the other offices of the Institutes of International Cooperation and Education (IICE) to the 4th floor of the Economics and Business Building, starting from this semester. It now has a cozy café-like atmosphere, so you can talk comfortably with foreigners from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays.

If you want to practice your speaking, you can visit during your spare time between classes. Since there are foreign keepers who work as guides there, you can ask them for help to meet new foreign friends. You can also join the language study groups, and have a group tutoring session from exchange students for whatever languages you choose: Korean, Chinese, Japanese, English, Russian, Spanish and French. In addition to language learning activities, you can simply spend time there as well. It is well furnished with couches, computers, magazines, traveling books, board games and so on. How about coming over with your friends and getting some rest?

If you have passion for learning languages and meeting new foreign friends, the Global Lounge is the right place. Now, the average number of visitors is about 20 a day, and the number of steady visitors is only five. This opportunity is too good to pass up, so try visiting the Global Lounge at least once while in college. You can get more information about the Global Lounge by visiting the IICE page on Facebook
