▲ A student is asking a question to President Lee during Question and Answer Session
“A Dialogue with President” is an annual event that has been implemented at the University of Seoul since 2004. This year, it was held in the Business Administration Building on Nov. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. It aims to better the university by freely exchanging ideas on problems on campus. Shortly after the president’s opening remarks, the question and answer session began without further ado. In the presence of President Lee Kun, members of the Professor Association Faculty and students, a number of issues were discussed.

First and the most significant issue that was brought up was regarding the recent rumors on the reduction of liberal arts classes. A student asked if this is true, why the faculty has not informed the Student Council of the changes. To this question, President Lee answered that this was partially true. While the number of lectures that are already established will remain the same, he plans to cut down on the number of the separated classes of the same lecture or to increase the number of students attending lectures in one class. President Lee also spoke of his aspirations of “ACE (Advancement for College Education) business,” which is managed by Ministry of Education for improvement of education quality, funding for universities teaching well.

The event left much to be desired. Students showed a low participation rate compared to previous years, and many lost their opportunities to voice their opinions and receive direct answers. Also in respect of the announcement, the university should have encouraged students to participate in such an event. Students should not forget that a way to make the better university is by their participation.
