On Dec. 19, the annual University of Seoul Alumni’s Night was held at the Seoul Sogong-dong Lotte Hotel Crystal Ballroom. This event is open for anyone involved in the UOS community including both undergraduate and graduate students.
This year, many graduating students participated in the event. Seniors specializing in the Dept. of Veterinary Medicine and the Dept. of Silk Yarn, both of which have both fallen into desuetude also came to the event. Older seniors from Gyungsung Agriculture School (the former name of UOS) also visited. A group of departments and function-specific tables were set up in order for students to be associated among themselves and to have a chance to exchange a variety of opinions with others.
This event is aimed to promote wide exchanges and greater concord among alumni. It started with President of the UOS Alumni Association ? Jeong Dae-jae (School of Environmental Engineering, ’74) ? giving a congratulatory speech. President Lee Kun also gave the congratulatory speech and his resolutions for UOS in the upcoming year. Choi Dae-hyun (Dept. of Urban Sociology, ’94), MBC announcer, acted as the host of the event. Part. 3 of the New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner was proceeded by the Dept. of Music alumni.
In addition, there was a delivery ceremony of the development fund for UOS that included the POSCO Alumni Association, Corporation Alumni Association, and Foreign Exchange Bank Alumni Association. The UOS Alumni’s Night conferred a variety of awards upon UOS alumni. These included an appreciation plaque, achievement award, special achievement award, and the Proudest UOS Student award. Shin Hee-joong (Director of UOS Alumni Association) said, “2013 UOS Alumni’s Night was more dramatic and lively than last year. We held this event for mutual harmony and our alma mater’s development. Thanks to alumni members’ encouragement, the event is constantly growing big and turning out to be a dynamic and vibrant each year than in previous years.”
