UOS has announced the abolishment of the university school bus. The school bus was halted on Feb. 10. According to the UOS general affairs section, the number of students who use the school bus has gradually decreased because of the transfer discount. Moreover, the school bus takes more time than the city bus. Thus, the general affairs section has decided to abolish the school bus.
The general affairs section conducted a survey before the abolishment of the school bus. According to the survey, many students agreed with the abolishment. The general affairs section also held a meeting with Chungchoon Story (the former Student Council). The decision to halt the school bus was dependent on the result of a collection of the students’ opinions. This collection was done through a survey and meeting.
The school bus began in the early 2000s due to the absence of both a city bus from Dapsimni and the transfer discount. School buses were run from Cheongnyangni and Dapsimni. UOS ran the school bus more than six times a day; thus, many UOS students took advantage of it. However, new city buses which came and went between UOS and Dapsimni were put into place and city buses began to support the transfer discount in the mid 2000s. Thus, students began to prefer city buses instead of the school bus.
The general affairs section halted the school bus from Cheongnyangni on March, 2012. On 2013, the general affairs section gradually decreased the number of school buses operating from Dapsimni from six to two. Despite a reduction in the number of school buses, the general affairs section continually debated the efficiency of the school bus. The school bus finally disappeared for good on Feb. 10, 2014.
