▲ A poster on LASIK and LASEK business of the Student Council
Since early last year, students at the University of Seoul (UOS) have been able to receive eye surgeries, commonly known as LASIK and LASEK surgeries, free of charge.

This started off with a suggestion from the former Student Council and has continued to provide services for UOS students until now. This service from the Student Council is run in tandem with Gangnam Seoul Bright Eye Clinic and Gangnam Clean World Eye Clinic. The cost of the aforementioned corrective eye surgeries is well over one million won, which can be burdensome for university students. Thus, UOS students and their immediate family members who need the surgery, but have a hard time affording the high cost can aim for this opportunity.

The number of students selected rose from four to six last year and to seven this year. The application period for the first half of 2014 was from June 30 to July 6, and seven students were selected. Criteria for the selection were based on eyesight tests, family relation certificates, and references which prove that health insurance costs were fully paid over three months. This business is expected to continue in the second half of 2014.
