Many UOS students might not know where the UOS Global Lounge is or even what it is. It is located on the 4th floor of Changgong Hall and is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during weekdays. Some might think that it is just a place just for exchange students, but that is not true.

There is a group study system in Global Lounge done entirely by exchange students who teach in their own languages. However, even if you cannot participate in this type of study group (due to an advanced registration requirement), it is not difficult to join them. In terms of the group study system, there are language classes twice a day ? one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Within this system, Spanish, Japanese, German, Russian, French, and English classes are each run by native speakers, and an enrolled student can learn foreign languages and cultures, debate, and play games with other group members.

The place is maintained entirely by foreign students who are called “keepers.” The UOS Times met two Global Lounge keepers whose duty it is to greet visitors with a smile, keep the lounge safe and clean, and play good music. Aisuluu Abdyrakmanova (School of Economics) who is from Kyrgyzstan said, “There are many other students who come here. They can use the computers, play games, or freely talk to others. There are no difficulties I have experienced while doing my job. You just talk to many people, chill out, and do whatever you want. It’s lots of fun.” Another keeper named Dinh Vu Van (Dept. of Business Administration), from Germany, said he first came to Korea because he loved K-POP and soon fell in love with Korea itself. He continued, “I want to get to know Korean people, and that’s why I am here. I really enjoy just doing this job for fun. By being here, I am giving Korean people an opportunity to sit down and talk with foreigners, help them improve their English, and just get to know us.”

Global lounge is open to every UOS student who wants to enjoy it. Do not be afraid and shy. It is available for you to meet, talk, and hang out with foreigners.
