The Main Library, which is familiar to us by the name “Jungdo,” is the largest library and one of the most frequently used buildings on the UOS campus. Consequently, there are many disgruntled voices coming from students who often use the Main Library. One of the biggest problems is seat-privatization. Following regulation set by the previous Student Council, saving seats without permission is now illegitimate so the Student Council and Student Welfare committee set aside situated books and stationaries on desks that were previously used to save seats. Nevertheless, piles of books are still lying on some desks, on radiators, and below windows without owners to claim them. The total prohibition of seat-privatization seems to be a work in progress.

The other problem is the superannuated facilities in Main Library. In the digital library on 4th floor, some of monitors in the digital reference section are missing and the big CRT monitor in the corner of the digital library remains unused. In the language study room inside the digital library, old radio machines which no one uses have been left only to take up space. Cassette tapes located at on the side wall are also outdated and not being used. Most air cleaners in the open reading room on the 2nd floor do not work. Some unused desks placed in the open reading room were not properly handled before and become broken. Continuous care and interest of students to Main Library are essential to use better library.
