Cover Story’s topic of this issue was the condition of the school facilities. It was interesting because the unsatisfactory condition is a recurring problem in school facilities. However, the part which explained how old buildings are poor in condition was unnecessarily long. It was quite obvious that old buildings would be in a worse condition than the new ones. It would have been better if Cover Story focused on dissatisfactory facilities of relatively new buildings. Nonetheless, the survey and interviews were appropriate in supporting the topic.

I liked how Society dealt with a topic of accidents of 2014 which was good for wrapping up the year. How three main problems were elaborated with charts helped my understanding of the text a lot. Also, evaluating solutions that are adopted to prevent the future accidents was very good, because having inefficient solutions is no better than not having any solutions at all.

Cover Story of this issue was very disappointing because it was not original. For instance, problems with the condition of school facilities could have been elaborated directly. Using interviews made the article shallow because it was used only to list the problems, not to analyze them. The conclusion only delivered the school staff’s views without any insight into the issue.

Society was appropriate considering the time of the year. It reviewed many accidents of 2014, investigated causes for the problems, and suggested a future direction by analyzing the current Korean government’s actions and foreign cases. Overall, it was a very meaningful and well-written article. Especially, the conclusion was good because it reminded the reader of the Korean people’s resolution when Sewol Ferry Tragedy happened.
