To foster creative talents that society wants and modify the entrance quota of UOS due to ACE project, UOS will newly found the College of Liberal Interdisciplinary Studies in 2017. Students who will be in this College can choose from nine Converged Majors so that they can foster more specialized talents in specific fields.

Freshmen in 2017 who apply for UOS as Comprehensive Student Record Admission can enter the School of Interdisciplinary Major so that they can learn Converged Major that more than two specific majors are combined. Undergraduate also apply it as their dual or minor major in the second semester of  2016.

There are now nine confirmed Converged Majors in the College that students can choose; International Relations-Big Data Analysis, Korean History-Urban History Landscape, Philosophy-East Asia Culture, Physics-Physics of the Electron, Urban Sociology-International City Development, Urban Planning and Design-Urban Property Planning and Administration, Natural Science-Statistics, Landscape Architecture-Business Administration, Urban Planning and Design-International City Development. Students in the School of Open Major choose one major to enter after a year, but students in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies can choose combined majors that differentiate from original majors in UOS.

As new College will be established, UOS rearranged the organization of the College from seven to eight. The School of Open Major will be with the School of Liberal Interdisciplinary Major in the College of Liberal Interdisciplinary Studies.

About newly-established college, Sang-hyeok Yoon (Dept. of English Language and Literature, ’14) showed the expectation. He said, “It is new trial which has not attempted from other universities. However, if I am worried about lack of a sense of belonging that students of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies can feel while attending UOS. In addition, there would be some problems about student autonomy in that major while it get settled as other majors of UOS have suffered.”
