A counselling center for part-time student workers has emerged to function as a nearby troubleshooter for the UOS students. The center was established in April of 2016 in commemoration of Labor Day. The center was in operation during the spring semester and summer vacation of 2016, and provided much advice on various UOS webpages. By advertising themselves on those webpages, they have given many students help before and after starting their part-time jobs.

Run by Siwon, the center helps other students when they are dismissed from their part-time jobs, which can happen without advanced warning or even while earned wages are overdue. Sang-jun Cha (School of Environmental Engineering, ’15), the representative of this center, said that several students have seen the posts and personally asked about their work problems. Cha added that the center is able to help students in various other ways. He said they have visited working places with counselees to demand overdue payments.

In providing detailed help to students, members of the center also learn about labor laws. Its establishment was the fulfillment of Siwon’s election pledge, and it is scheduled to remain in operation at least for the rest of the year.
