Park explained that “although Korea’s forests were destroyed during the period of Japanese colonialism and the Korean War, Koreans made efforts to restore the forests. They made specific plans to rehabilitate forests such as the 1st and 2nd 10-year Forest Greening Plans conducted from 1973 to 1987.” He especially emphasized the systematic approaches to planting trees as the most important key to reforestation in Korea. He reminded the audience of the importance of managing our forests consistently.
This lecture was part of the Urban Infra Forum, hosted by the International School of Urban Science (ISUS). ISUS was established with the purpose of nurturing globally competitive experts in urban development and sharing Korea’s experience in urban development and management. They hold discussion forums like this one, which was conducted in English, on the topics such as development, environment, construction and other related issues with invited speakers. The Forum aims at offering in-depth learning and practical knowledge needed for attaining competitiveness in the fields of domestic and international development. These topics had not been fully covered in regular academic courses before. ISUS holds the Urban Infra Forum on the second Thursday of every month during the semester.
