“I have never forgotten the first day I walked alone in an alley near the university. The sky was dark with orange glow of the street lamp and old buildings and construction sites made me more scary. Before I used to it, I always had a phone call with mom and friends and hoped nothing would be happen. For the women who lived near there, it is not that unfamiliar situation.” Student A recalled her horrified and even creepy experiences. However, after implementing “this,” pedestrians can walk along the alleyways without any dangers. This is called “Service for the Safe Return Home of Women.”

 The Dongdaemun-gu Office launched this program on 2014 and this program aims for women and teenagers to return home safely. This social safety network program operates as follow. Firstly, make a reservation for this service via phone. Users can contact for this service through dial number 120 and +82-2-2127-4626. Before 10 minutes arriving at appointed places, staff members would wait for users. Note that you have to prepare for identification (ID) card or foreigner ID card. It runs from March to December, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. every Monday to Friday.
