The “2019 Korean Future Urban-Cooperation Network Forum” was held at the Centennial Memorial Hall of the University of Seoul (UOS) in May 16, 2019. The forum tackled two key challenges: promoting exchanges in the academic fields between North and South Korea and develop a blueprint for the future development of the Peninsula. UOS hosted this forum and the Ministry of Unification, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Seoul Metropolitan Council were its main sponsors.
The forum sought ways to prepare for Korean reunification. One of the main proposals was establishing a linkage of the capital cities of Seoul and Pyongyang, thereby interchanging Seoul’s expertise in the field of urban development with that of Pyongyang’s in order to help transform Pyongyang into a high-tech-oriented “smart city.” Also, the forum participants shared their opinions on ways to minimize economic and social discrepancies and maximize the number of interactions between the North and South. The UOS Times hopes that this forum served as a stepping stone for “drawing out” a future-oriented road-map toward reunification.
