The University of Seoul (UOS) will set up a global campus in Zuunmod City in TUV Aimag, Mongolia. UOS has decided to establish a global campus abroad to utilize the capabilities of UOS as a specialized university in urban sciences. This is to establish the education system of UOS in large cities of developing countries. Moreover, UOS expects to systematically share Seoul’s various urban development and urban management policies learned during its rapid growth.
UOS will establish and operate schools and train Mongolian experts on urban problem solving through the establishment of universities. Thus, through making UOS global campus in Mongolia, UOS will be able to promote not only expanding the university’s external performance, but also promoting urban exports, including urban policy consulting.

Suh Soon-tak, president of UOS said “Seoul, world’s one of the largest city, has huge public data such as city management, transportation, environment and welfare. The curriculum is being reorganized using artificial intelligence to research and utilize such big data. It will establish itself as a university that actually solves complex social problems. By founding a big data research institute, we will develop people who discover, analyze, and suggest alternatives to cities around the world.” He emphasized fusion education, which has hidden the barriers between departments.

UOS plans to share the results of these public big data research with the world through the UOS global campus. The first overseas campus is expected to be built in the city of Sindo near Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. UOS and the Mongolian provincial government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last month on the establishment of the campus. “The central government in Mongolia will support the approval of the Mongolian campus of UOS and the local government will provide the site for schools free of charge,” Suh said. “A total of 250 students in global campus, from five departments, including information and communication technology, urban development, and transportation, will open the school and operate it in Mongolia for three years and one year in Seoul.” UOS has a plan to expand its overseas campuses to Southeast Asia, Africa and South America after the opening of its Mongolian campus.
