Recently, the cyber university comes into the spotlight, as computers and high-speed Internet spread wide. Now, there are a total of 17 government-authorized cyber colleges: Kyung Hee Cyber University, Gukje Digital University, Daegu Cyber University, Busan Digital University, Cyber University of Foreign Studies, Seoul Digital University, Seoul Cyber University, World Cyber College, University of Semin, Sejong Cyber University, Open Cyber University, Yeungjin Cyber College, Wonkwang Digital University, Korea Digital University, Korea Cyber University, Hansung Digital University, and Hanyang Cyber University.

Cyber universities offer lectures through the Internet-world wide web with no need of any classrooms. Students can study in a man-to-man system and can submit an assignment via e-mail. Open Cyber University is a consociated with 14 different off-line universities. Hanyang Cyber University and Kyung Hee Cyber University are founded by Hanyang and Kyung Hee University foundations. The rest of them are generally private-owned. Even though more and more cyber universities are established with the help of the improvement of on-line network, there are many people who don’t agree that on-line education can replace the conventional off-line education.

However, cyber universities win the confidence of people these days. That is because people want to spend time efficiently. Classes can be kept in good order and they can also overcome weakness of off-line education through using multimedia. The courses are generally a 4-year basis and many schools have a credit exchange program with foreign schools.

Moreover, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development has recently revised the criteria regarding an official approval for the teaching staff to admit the grades taken through self-education which includes Credit Bank System, cyber universities and its graduate schools for a certificate of qualification to teach. So it is expected that people will eventually have more interest in cyber universities and their number of enrollment will be higher.
