We found several problems with our analysis of the program in cross-examination of those of other schools and companies. The first problem was the monopoly on the tourist bureau.

For students it was difficult to get the flight tickets; besides, the tickets were very expensive in comparison with those offered by other travel agencies.

Second, the notification of the required documents for the Theme Travel and the Free-Backpack Travel came out too late. So the students didn’t have enough time to prepare the required documents and take the TOEIC, TOEFL, or TEPS test.

Moreover, the connection between the school and the insurance company was not solid. Both documents were very different, so the students had to prepare twice. Fourth, the school didn’t make an occasion collecting any data after the GLP.

Last, students need to upgrade their mind. They were too weak in competition due to lack of preparation. The school was planning to select 50 teams originally. But, only 12 teams showed enough preparation and passion for the participation.

Suggestions

Construction of the Database is essential. We can’t guarantee no accidents and mistakes.

Therefore, we have to construct the database out of experiences of the GLP. Especially, the Theme Travel that reaches out over the world can exposes its participants to unexpected dangers. Students may go to threatening places in lack of pre-learned information.

To prevent these happenings, the school is advised to build up data from previous participants’ experiences and should form a collective database. To keep the GLP active, security and safety are the foremost issue.

Also, in lack of students’ preparation, the minimum number was not even scored. It is very shameful. The school and students have to strive together and make the better GLP.

Conclusion

The GLP is a specialized system of the UOS, unique of all colleges in Korea. Especially, the Theme Travel is the school’s thoughtful policy to give students a chance to work on the field in which they are interested from the global perspectives.

As the program is still new, there is hope for improvement over time. Students need to show a constant and aggressive interest in the GLP. Also, the school needs to construct a system of reliable database and take the special post-program when the students come back from the trip. We want to see the advancing GLP as time goes by and hope that it will become the pride of the UOS.
