From August 16th to 19th, there was a pleasurable swirl in Yongin City, Gyeonggi-do. The students who took part in the program seemed to be very enthusiastic in the classroom with their eyes sparkling. They paid all attention to the class not to miss anything.

“This is a great chance to figure out myself; moreover it’s free!”, Han, KyungGun said with a smile There has been twice a Self Leadership Program (SLP) at Hyundai Human Resources Development, Yongin City, Gyeonggi-do.

The SLP is a leadership program similar to the Global Leadership Program (GLP) conducted by the University of Seoul (UOS), but it is different in that it’s not held in the global place. The first program was held from August 16th to 19th with forty selected students.

Because the school subsidized the whole expenses, more students were eligible to the benefits from the program than ever. The students apparently seemed very excited and also very confident in full readiness to learn.

The program was definitely to go on a smooth course. I found that the students at the program were more varied than I had expected.

I sat wondering, ‘What kind of lecture will I be listening to?’ “This group is the youngest one that I have ever been before. With younger people around me, I feel as young as they are. Let’s bring it on!” the lecturer said. I felt comfortable with the lecture, and could easily concentrate on it.

The lecture began with the subject about the importance of leadership. It was a warming-up step to the following lectures. The lecturer explained the importance of understanding the outcomes of other individuals and groups, which is determined by the individual’s level of leadership.

I thought the leadership is only necessary for a group, but I realized that it could affect deeply to one’s life. So, I thought over meanwhile and braced one to concentrate on program. The second lecture was about thinking strategies. This was growing possibility for realization through self-expectation.

Also, building truth against oneself with the Pygmalion Effect and Seo, Jin-Kyoo’s case - she started her American life working at a factory, but entered the Harvard University later - we’re required to state ‘I am~’ and ‘I can ~’. And then by self-counseling and symbolizing, we learned the way to know ourselves deeply and even change ourselves.

From old days, I heard that if someone shouts out his or her dream in front of the mirror three times every day, then it really will come true. But in truth, I was pretty pessimistic about the question ‘Does the thinking really affect my behavior?’

However, after I figured out that it had really worked by the case, I decided to work on constructive minds.

The lectures continued. ‘Self-behavior strategy’ course was about the examination of oneself and setting of goals. Dividing the goals into short period ones and long period ones, I found that my goals looked more practical and achievable than I had had them without the division.

I could establish more efficiently after setting a goal and considering about what kind of effort and process are needed. I was also told that self-estimating and compensating are very essential factors for success in achieving goals.

I learned that they play a core role in the control of all sorts for the achievement. I have overlooked this fact and haven’t tried to estimate myself or to compensate. But from now on, I’ll make full advantage of practical stimulus. you ever heard that praise even makes the wail dance?

On the next day, we learned future-oriented insight and how to act with principle and belief. Besides, I also learned the way to be a real leader through sacrifice. And I had a chance to figure out who really I am with the MBTI test, a personality test developed by Myers and Briggs, which I found was a very correct and scientific way of self-discovery.

I was the ENTP type that is nimble, unique, discriminative, talented and interested in a various parts. Based on the results of the MBTI test, we were grouped to discuss with the same type of people.

It was really miraculous and pleasurable to meet with the same type of people as mine. From this experience, I also was able to admit that there are many people who are different from me. I had known that a born character was the best way to describe them like all fruits have their own perfume and flavor as well.

Finally, there came the final module ‘Completion of S.E.L.F’. This is the unit course of the former five modules. I was given a time to write a letter to myself in the future and arrange former courses. Feeling awkward, I was absorbed in my successful future for a while pleasantly.

Besides, we also visited an indirect work place such as DaeSan Oilbank and Asan Hyundai Motors. We could see how the organizational system controls the flow of the organization by visiting the manufacturing plants and public relations.

And there was another interesting program, condition training, which was a training program of spirit through disciplining one’s body and mind. Through the simple exercises and movement, we found the way to control the condition and ourselves efficiently. I felt sorry when the three nights and four days of the leadership program was ended.

The short four days, however, became a brand-new opportunity of changeover. I felt I had been strengthened in my leadership. I appreciated the opportunity for career development through this course.

After the program ended, I was greatly satisfied with the program, and got a clear vision and positive attitude towards life. Although I was a kind of person who was pretty interested in self-development, I thought that I got a valuable outcome, which would have been impossible to make by myself. It was a truly beneficial experience for me!
