The reporter interviewed a brand namist. The interviewee is Lee Sung-young, who founded Powerbrand, a namist company in Seoul.

1. How did you start your job? Have you ever noticed about this job before?

Mr. Lee: When I was in communication company as a manager for the domain of the company in 1998, I realized the importance of naming and prepared to found a naming company. Then I established a brand naming company, Powerbrand the next year.

2. What is the merits and demerits of namist?

Mr. Lee: Above all, we can use our time freely and watch various kinds of new products. We have lots of advantages as a namist. As a namist, we can make the best use of our talent. Consumers watch only small sorts of advertised products but there are many unknown products and I can make people know about a new product. The weak point of this job is the difficulty of creation and meeting the requirements of CEOs.

3. Do you have any famous brand names that you made and is there any special name really difficult to make?

Mr. Lee: My company made the brand-new names like Easyplus(credit card), Mobine(Hyundae multi-cap computer), Euntop main vill(apartment) and etc. When I made a name of Mobine, I had 40 nominees and 300 other good names. At that time, I thought all computer names were in my brain.

4. Do you have anything to say to students who want to be a naminst?
Mr. Lee: I give students an advice. To be a cool naminst, you should be a person who can enjoy creating something. And, at the same time, you need to forget about earning much money. You should also be resolved to get thousands of complaints.

You cannot complete naming within one or two years. It takes at least four or five years and at most up to 10 years and in that period you will have a hard time and endure it. However, when you complete the name, you will feel the same feelings of a mother who just give a birth to her child.
