More than 10 million people live in Seoul and Seoul has many sporting equipments in lots for villagers and parks. But many people cannot make good use of these tools because they do not know how to use them properly. In order to spend useful spare time people need to learn sports directly.
The Department of Sports Information have an educational purpose of training professional people who can teach physical education, provide information, and manage the equipments appropriately. It harmonizes physical sports activities and related profound theories so to lead a sport information era by spreading sports and recreation.
The Dept. of Sports Information has several special features that are difficult to see in general physical departments.
Students of the Dept. of Sports Information learn physical sports basically. They should qualify more than 3 grade in swimming, tennis, skiing, golf and learn Taekwondo and the art of self-defense professionally. They also must complete one item and camping training in vacation.
What is specially remarkable in the Dept. of Sports Information is ‘a written promise for non-smoking’. This is a Professor’s suggestion to guard against the bad habit of smoking and the whole 40 students agreed and sweared to keep it. They said non-smoking improves not only sports skills but also mental concentration.
The graduates of the Dept. of Sports Information will become professional guides of physical sports, managers of sports industry information, sports prescriber, sports-casters and critics, and etc. The prospect of it is very infinite. These fields are not yet professionalized and not many people study them profoundly. It seems that the Dept.
of Sports Information has infinite potentials. They showed us their union in Jansangotmaegi soccer games by winning a championship and they are very enthusiastic for the activity like English Conversation. They have not only physical strength but also intelligence to achieve their goal. We expect their continuous growth.
