Yim Kyoung-han Sophomore, Dept. of Urban-Sociology yrara@hanmir.com One day, my junior in circle the UOS Times, asked me to write an article. She wanted me to focus on the strong blast of teenage, female singers.

At the time she asked me, I didn’t believed that I could write it. There is a huge gap between teenagers and myself. Frankly speaking, they are so young, compared to the age of my favorite stars’ age, I thought the generation gap was too wide. Even if the gap was small, there were still so many differences of mind, character, and acting.

It seemed like an impossible task. How could I decide in this situation? To be good senior, or a bad senior! I got very troubled for a minute. But, reminding myself on my green day dreaming of the star, I decided to write it delightfully. (Everyone can imagine becoming a singer at least once!)

What I didn’t know was¡¦ First of all, the teenage female singers who I have known were from SES, Finkle, to BOA, Park Hwayobi, and Chang Na-ra. Now, however, they have briskly changed to getting love. More teenage female singers like Hanul, JoAnne, Dana, and Yuri, who are fairly new, have appeared on stage in great force. These current singers have become extremely hot, ever since ‘BOA,’ (a 13 years old star), hit the world of singers in 1999.

Now these teenage singing stars have become a natural part of the music industry. Their dancing has become a kind of gossip, and confused as popular. Soon, their performances became valued not only by the level interest generated by their fans, but as their talent as singers too.

Also, in contrast to their age, they have performed with the busy schedules, and hard training in the world of more accomplished, and mature singers. Teenage female singers must carry out both as an entertainer, and a student at the same time. But nobody can deny the fact that the main stream of singers has been made up of idol stars.

This system has formed a fresh atmosphere for targeting the teenage-audience, and created a special reaction. In some respects, it has been judged a similar case to Brittney Spears, and Christina Aguilera, of the U.S.A. Teenage stars like these have become an instant sensation all over the world.

The strong blast of teenage female singers in Korea, have had a similar effect with fans as those idols in America. Even though they are the same age as my sister, you cannot ignore their talent. They not only sing, but are also featured as models in many magazines like commercial.

Because their fans are the same age, this common feature has driven them to close friendships. This peer support has also allowed them to come out and express their generation’s individuality. How about their songs? Songs like Utggine, (which is satirical about society), and R&B songs, (which she composed herself), have been stable and shown a special quality.

Above all, I think the entrance of these teenage singers is not competing, but having common interest in each other. It’s become a teenage female singers paradise! Who are they? Now, lets look at the famous teenage singers like JoAnne, Dana and Hanul in earnest. How did they become entertainers?

After their talents had grown in generous Christian families, they developed their ability, by acting through various channels in common. In the case of JoAnne, her performance in California stood out conspicuously by the composer Kim Hyung-suk and returned to Korea by accepting his suggestion.

As soon as she sang the song, ‘As same mind’, of Yupgi Girl’s O.S.T, and appeared in some commercial issues, she was well known. Dana was also a magazine model, playing in ‘Age of peace’ as a 3D cinema, and acting in Kangta’s music video. Finally, Hanul started her debut on the TV program, ‘Truth Game’ and sang the song on the recommendation of gag woman Lee Sung-mi.

The activities before their debuts are no smaller than their present activities. They were better at expressing their talents than any others, and took a positive attitude. Also, these young singers had more commonality in age, and sex, than older singers with more of a generation gap. Among the teenage singers, Christina Aguilera was their favorite, compared to the Celine Dion’s pop impacts among 20-30 years old fans. Being highly skilled in English, they have charmed fast, and deeply.

As the latest entertainment issues hit the stands, it was clear, teenage female vocalists were hot! Some of this is because they are young and have the possibility of growing professionally in the future.

Also, they are full of energy and enthusiasm, and this newness is contagious. You might wonder whether their decision was right about acting so early. Will it take its toll later on their characters or careers? Nevertheless, you must consider their talent and the influence they have had on the youth of today. If all this enthusiasm and energy can be passed on to their peers, isn’t that good?
