Some UOS students made an effortto meet global standards during summervacation. The University of Seoul (UOS)sent 160 students to foreign universitieslast June.

The university chose suitablestudents during the previous semester bycredits (50%), TOEIC, TOEFL or TEPSscores (20%), a Statement of Purpose(10%) and an interview (20%).The university dispatched selected studentsto: Stony Brook University in NewYork, Miami University in Ohio andNorth Carolina State University in NorthCarolina,

USA; the University ofCalgary, Canada; the University College London in the

UK; Beijing NormalUniversity, Aston Fudan University and Beijing Union University,

China; andTokyo Gakugei University in Japan.Selected students were divided amongthese universities, roughly 20 to each.Expenses were cheaper than private travelbecause tuition costs were coveredand half of their living costs wereoffered by UOS.

They could experience many otheradvanced cultures and improve their foreignlanguage skills through going overseas.

“At first, I was embarrassed by differentcultures and not having anyacquaintances. But as I became acquaintedwith my companions for five weeks, Ienjoyed life in the foreign country andexperienced many things.” said Ki Jaeryangwho participated in this program.
