On January 27, the board of ‘Planning Association’ decided to raise the tuition. The raise in freshmen’s fee was 10% higher than that of undergraduates; undergraduates had 9.5% increase and freshmen by 19.5%.

Freshmen did not know exactly how much their fee was raised and it was difficult to complain directly against it. So their complaints had hardly any attention from administrators. “We could not increase tuition fee for two years even though other national, public universities have did it. And we are going to be more free financially from Seoul Metropolitan City. There is no way but to raise tuition in order to meet the spending expenses per student. “The benefit of cheap tuition, at the UOS has been disappeared. This tuition increase is happening while most Korean have not overcome so-called the economic turmoil, yet.

The GSC members and some other students resist it. They say there is no logic in the school officials’ reasons. The students tried to meet the school officials on the same day, but with unsatisfactory results. They are planning to have a demonstration with another schools against the rocketing tuition on March 23∼25.
