Within the University of Seoul (UOS), there is a microcosm where we can meet students who came from various countries. That is . Cafe S was opened last March 19, accompanied by the onset of spring. was established for UOS students to improve their foreign language skills and promote friendship with foreign exchange students.

Professor Keum Hie yeon of the Dept. of International Relations who led the establishment of said, "I intended to enhance students` ability to speak foreign languages through this cafe as well as their comprehension of other cultures."

is located in the Liberal Arts Building. has some rules about using language because it aims to be a `global cafe.` First of all, inside of this cafe students should use only the appointed language on the appointed day. Students should speak English every Tuesday and Thursday, Japanese on Monday, and Chinese on Wednesday. In conclusion, using Korean is not permitted in the cafe. Of course, is a working `cafe`, coffee is provided to students who bring their own cups.

expands its role to be a new cultural space for all members of the UOS beyond a space to use foreign languages. Last March 30, there was a `Mug Festival` in the . Also, a special lecture was held. Marilyn Plumlee, Professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, visited the and lectured on learning English.

Ryu Hyeon-geol, a sophomore of the Dept. of Business Administration, said "To be honest, isn`t as big as I expected. However, I think it is probably enough to get to know other students."

Recently, most universities are trying to globalize. In the process of globalization, it is important to increase the number of foreign universities to exchange with and attract more foreign students. However a more essential thing is to arrange circumstances under which Korean and foreign students can understand each other. For this reason, it can be said that is an exemplary place. NEWS@UOS hopes will consistently perform its role as a place for international exchange.
