The Election Management Committee of the UOS has experienced difficulty due to the low voting rate of the recent election for student president of the UOS. This problem often occurs not only in our university but in all universities in Korea. It`s little wonder there is such political apathy amongst university students in light of the situation above.
It is necessary for university students to have a sense of duty to be concerned about politics because they are intellectuals. If intellectuals don`t care for politics, our society`s foundation might give way a tide of corrupt politicians. University students think the throw-away thought: It`s none of my concern anyway.

Political apathy is different from turnout. Political apathy doesn`t surround students. They have agony about voting for a candidate. But in reality low turnout of university students means that there isn`t a good candidate. In addition, students from the country have to cast an absentee ballot. That process is so troublesome. It is necessary to make voting system simple.

Lately, university students don`t have a broad view of the world or subjectivity. The world is changing so fast, but they don`t think about that. As a result, the turnout rate to make society`s blueprint decreases. In actuality, increases in employment, and house buying, are important but shortfall in these areas is more important. To combat the problem, not only consciousness but also political effort is important.

Apart from the presidential election, University students aren`t interested in politics. Because politics don`t influence student lives directly. Instead their TOEIC and TOEFL scores are important. To increase the voting numbers, the government constantly puts on publicity events. For example, a member of the National Assembly lectures as a university professor.
