On Tuesday, November 6, at 4 p.m. About 130 students concentrated on this lecture. Professor Park Cheol-soo lectured about meanings in buildings and broadened the minds of students through it. When NEWS@UOS attended this class, the air of the classroom was very serious.

It was not just for the test each time, but students really focused on the professor and no one was distracted. He gave a passionate lecture. "Stop making `space,` and create `place.` We must change our thinking."

Why did students choose this class? Choi Seung-yong, a freshman of the Dept. of Business Administration, said "I have a much interest in architecture. This summer I read a book about it and decided to take this class. And I`m also satisfied with the syllabus." Gong Jeong-ryeol, a freshman of the Dept. of Physics said, "Architecture affects our lives in many aspects and it is related to my major."

This course is very attractive and satisfying. Students can get lots of things by just listening to the lecture. But this course isn`t completed in this classroom, there are pleasures to be had from applying `the learning` to real buildings - especially buildings in the University of Seoul (UOS). If NEWS@UOS can recommend special points, there are two - field investigation report and real architect`s direct explanation.

In field investigation reporting, there is no limitation but there must be included in the report, pictures and sketches. So `a camera` was stipulated on its syllabus. Lee Jin-ho, a freshman of the Dept. of Business Administration, said "(Writing a report after a field investigation,) Architecture is not just pretty, but very thoughtful consideration for the building and people who will use it." He really noticed several more special things in buildings. Students should perform investigations of the buildings of the UOS four times.

So students can meet them more easily, and it is more understandable. In fact, when Lee recognized that the bricks of the Liberal Arts Building, where this lecture took place, differ from other buildings`, he was much interested.

Second, explanations by professional architects make students think about the meaning of buildings and architecture by week four. Students also feel the heartfelt beauty of the buildings and intention of the architects. Choi also said, "I can notice the architecture`s touch everywhere on the buildings."

While NEWS@UOS attended this class, we were perfectly fascinated. It is a sincere opportunity that draws attraction to architecture by the passion of the professor. Professor Park expects students would feel that the architecture is not just itself, but includes and faces all areas of our lives - historic, aesthetic, political, and economic social matters etc.

So they can learn that the architecture has a larger value than only as a residential space. `The Understanding Architecture` class, therefore, gives the chance to wider understanding and makes a broader view. Architecture creates people`s residence places, so it is the most important thing. The results of architecture - buildings or other structures - are complex with all experiences and philosophy.
