During last winter vacation, the Institute of International Cooperation and Education offered the program, `Exploring Global Cities` for UOS students. Students who applied to experience global cites` processes of development and culture explored each of the cities (London, San Francisco, Melbourne, Shanghai). They visited government agencies and urban science facilities, and made comparative studies.

Changing the Number of School Days from 16 Weeks to 15 Weeks

From this semester, the number of school days runs to 15 weeks different from the 16 weeks of last semester. By reason of this change, from May 19 to 23 and from October 20 to 24, classes are suspended. Instead, the university will use these periods as supplementary lecture periods. Until last semester, if lectures were cancelled due to holidays or some unavoidable circumstances, it was hard to make up the missing lectures. From this semester, instead of decreasing the number of school days, the university plans to use one week to give a supplementary lecture.

Prof. Kim Seol-hyang Wins Prize

On February 18, in Westin Chosun hotel, the Coca-Cola athletics prize giving ceremony was held. It was sponsored by Sports Chosun and Coca-Cola. Many people attended this event. The president of Hawonsports Chosun, the president of Coca-Cola Korea, the head of the Korean Sports Council, to name but a few of the almost 100 people who were in attendance. In this awards ceremony, there were 8 categories and 11 people were awarded a total of 16 million Won prize money. In this event, UOS Prof. Kim Seol-hyang won a research prize. Since 1995, Coca-Cola has given prizes for sports talent, every year.

Dept. of Urban Engineering Holds Exhibition

On March 12, the Dept. of Urban Engineering held an exhibition of investigation into Germany at the Gyeong-Nong Hall gallery `Red Bricks.` This exhibition is a link in the chain of the `2007 Korea and Germany Joint Studio of City Design.` The exhibition displayed the outcome of investigation into an urban regeneration project which was practiced by an advanced city in Germany. "I was very impressed by the combination of old and new, it looks good. I think this is the driving force behind the preservation of historical remains in Germany. And I hope this exhibition provides the momentum necessary to create a good culture like that of Germany." said Seo Won (Dept of. Urban Engineering `04).



Dept. of Transportation Engineering Holds International Seminar

An `International Seminar on Asia`s Transportation Questions` was held by the Dept. of Transportation Engineering in the Natural Science Building. Prof. Chan Wirasinghe and Prof. Shosi Mijogami attended this seminar as experts in the field of transportation and discussed questions concerning Asia`s transportation issues.



Open Day for High School Students

On January 19, an open day for high school students was held. Its name was `Your S` and was hosted by the goodwill ambassador Irumi. 71 high school second year students from throughout the country attended this event. The students who participated in this event could listen to UOS entrance information and they could think of their future path using some games prepared by Irumi. Also, they invited Prof. Choe Won-seok (Dept. of Science in Taxation) and held a mock entrance interview. The participants could know more about the UOS. It was a very good opportunity to get to know about the UOS and think to about their futures.
