The Office of Student Affairs said “The purpose of this establishment is to create a competent person who can satisfy modern society’s needs”. The Faculty of Interdisciplinary is not related to the University of Seoul (UOS)’s seven colleges but directly belongs to the Administration Office. Also, it targets 63 humanity students in the government-sponsored scholastic aptitude test (for university admission).
The freshman of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary will take cultural subjects and will have a chance to select a course via presentation. After taking these courses students can choose their major without conditions when it comes time for them to become seniors.
The UOS will give benefaction to Faculty of Interdisciplinary students. For example they have the first consideration in language study overseas or doing a minor in on overseas university, if they satisfy certain conditions. Kim Byeong-gi (Administration Officer) said “If students’ grades satisfy the Faculty of Interdisciplinary they will be selected. But with the same conditions as general students.”
Twenty seven other universities have or will establish a Faculty of interdisciplinary, these include: The Seoul National University, The Yonsei University, The SungKyunKwan University etc. The faculty of Interdisciplinary is representing the School of Law, so the UOS and another universities are looking forward to it.
