The 2016 Festival Left Problems

The 2016 UOS festival, called “Bestival,” held from May 17th to 20th, attracted more students and people from outside UOS when compared to other years, but it still left several problems to be solved.

Several female students complained about sexual harassment by the operator of a ride called “Tagada,” usually known as “Disco Pang Pang.” Allegedly, the operator verbally harassed female students on the ride, and the victims complained on Daenamu-sup, one of the UOS Facebook pages. In addition to this, some female students said that they felt sexual humiliation at a club party held in Birch Hall on the last day of the Bestival. Members of the Student Council had difficulty managing the party safely because there were too many people in attendance. As a result, it closed earlier than scheduled because of these incidents.

Trash disposal was also a problem. A lot of waste accumulated from the food trucks and pubs run by various departments. However, there were not enough garbage cans,  provided which led to waste being left all over the campus. Sang-jun Cha (School of Environmental Engineering, ’15), a member of Siwon, the 2016 Student Council, said that there was more trash than last year, which caused more difficulties in disposal.
The festival is the biggest event at the school, so it requires improvements on these problems next time.
