At the end of July, the university dormitory announced its plan to open single rooms. So far, except for the international house, the dorm has been only running its double rooms. Nevertheless, due to the recommendation of the Ministry of Education to prevent COVID-19 from spreading, change has been made. Applicants for a single-room unit among the existing double room users have already moved to single-rooms on Aug. 20.

However, the single room is not a single room in actuality. The interior of the dorm unit has not changed- : the structure of a double room with two beds, desks, chairs, and bookshelves is still the same but is just occupied by one person now. Previously, it has been pointed out that our school has a low dormitory acceptance rate. Simply giving a double room formerly used by two people to one person without any remodeling makes the acceptance rate even lower. Since numerous students are demanding to get in the dormitory, this decision seems like the dorm has not taken students' positions into account.

Student Y, who was unable to get into the dorm and is commuting from Yongin, Gyeonggi, was furious when he first heard the situation. "I don't even think the operation of a single room helps prevent the spread of COVID-19." Student S, who moved into a single room a few weeks ago, said that she is also worried about that part, and trying to stay in the room as much as possible. Thus, she does not use the cooking room(communal kitchen), but mostly orders delivery food and eats inside her room. As they pointed out, it is questionable whether the single room can help to prevent COVID-19, especially when there are lots of other multi-use facilities like the cooking room, the laundry room, and the convenient store are in the dorm.

The dormitory said that the single room system will be continued until the end of the COVID-19 and they have not decided about next year's dorm operation. A committee for dorm management will decide the details at a meeting in November. On the other hand, the dormitory announced that students who are unable to enter during the prescribed admission period due to the re-occurrence of COVID-19 are free to enter any time during the weekdays in September.
