Due to COVID-19, there have been some restrictions on the use of school facilities. Therefore, there has been a huge change in UOS clubs’ operation.

According to the Club Union, since March 2020, using individual club rooms and the practicing room has been banned. This rule will be applied until the national infectious disease alert level is alleviated from ‘Serious’ to ‘Caution’. When club members break the rule, a warning will be given first. If the rule is broken again, two points will be deducted at the re-registration examination.

Not being allowed to use the club rooms, all clubs have suffered, but especially, the performance clubs. For example, due to this measure, some performance clubs had to seek other practicing rooms at their own expense. Additionally, according to the English drama club ‘Edra’, the play which they had planned to perform in March was postponed until May. It was because no stage was available at the university due to the restrictions for COVID-19. The play was delayed to the summer, and it was totally canceled in the end.

Not only the performance clubs, but many other clubs have faced trouble because the club rooms are unavailable. Club members cannot meet each other and carry out their club activities since there is no gathering place. Recently, as the COVID-19 social distancing measure has been raised to 2.5, the gathering of more than 10 people inside and 20 people outside are prohibited. Only when COVID-19 restrictions are eased, club activities will be conducted smoothly.
