Each day, many people rely on caffeine to wake up, or to improve their concentration. However, excessive caffeine intake has a negative effect on health. If you have too much caffeine, you may experience unwanted effects, such as feeling jittery, anxious, or restless. In addition, drinking a large amount of caffeine on an empty stomach causes excessive secretion of gastric acid, which stimulates the stomach wall. This can lead to stomach-related diseases such as gastric ulcers, gastritis, and reflux esophagitis. Therefore, taking a moderate amount of caffeine is good for health. Up to 400 milligrams of caffeine, a day appears to be safe for most healthy adults. That's roughly the amount of caffeine in four cups of brewed coffee or two energy drinks. However, even small amounts may prompt unwanted effects to people who are more sensitive to caffeine than are others. Thus, it is important to take a moderate amount of caffeine in consideration of their own health condition.
