On November 8, the Ministry of Environment announced to revise the legislation which includes the prohibition of the attachment of disposable plastic straws to beverage products. This is because attaching unnecessary materials to packaging products not only makes recycling materials difficult but also causes problems such as waste of resources.
Apart from plastic straws, plastic waste can be found easily in everyday life. University Student A who lives alone said that she feels disposable plastic packaging containers left after ordering delivery food are the main cause of plastic waste from her house. She also added that sometimes she feels guilty about ordering delivery food because of it. Disposable containers packed with food are bulky and difficult to recycle. However, there is no alternative to regulate or replace packaging containers for delivery of food, so such problems are difficult to solve. She said, "I hope these plastic containers will also be regulated like plastic straws to reduce the total amount of trash.”
This pre-announcement of legislation means the efforts to minimize environmental pollution are not just for individuals, but the entire society, including the government. It’s time for society-wide efforts.
