“What the heck. How can newcomers like me get a job if every company recruits experienced people?”
This expression is from a Korean comedy show. It has been widely shared by a lot of netizens and has become an ‘Internet Meme’. This was so influential among Korean young people who were about to prepare for their careers and looking for a job, internship, and extracurricular activity. It proves that the quote reflects the reality of how difficult getting a job is. To tell the truth, it is like pulling down a star for newcomers to get an internship without any former career. It is a paradox. In fact, in some cases, even if he or she gets an internship, they will not get paid right. It is called ‘Passion Pay’ which means they are paid not by money but by their passion. Pitiful thing is that the aforementioned quote came out in 2014, but it seems that no big changes have appeared since then. It is COVID-19 these days, and the job and extracurricular activity market are frozen and therefore it’s getting worse. It would not be easy to think positively for a young man. Hope the situation gets better.
