MEMORIAL DAYS

“SiPORTS,” the athletic association of University of Seoul, and Palette, the Student Council, hosted an “E-sports competition.” The preliminary round was conducted from November 20 to 22, and the final round was covered live on November 27. Furthermore, the competition revolved around two-game events—League of Legends and Cart Rider (which are online games)—and *nine schools in the eastern part of Seoul participated in this event.

(*The nine participant schools are listed as follows: University of Seoul, Kwangwoon University, Konkuk University, Sejong University, Kyunghee University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Korea University, Sahmyook University, and Seoul National University of Science and Technology.)

Not only did nine schools participate in the event, but also the grand scale was confirmed at the promotional stage. Pre-events, such as quizzes, from the initial stage, were conducted through Instagram. Moreover, professional game commentators were recruited for the event. Caster Jeon Yong-joon and commentator CloudTemplar (a former professional player for the world cup relay team in League of Legends) participated in the broadcast for the final round.

With this huge scale, the E-sports competition was successfully completed. Because of the current situation, wherein it is unclear when in-person events will take place, these online events must be encouraged to ensure that students can enjoy their university life even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
