January 12, 2021, SCATTER LAB (representative of Science of Love, and Iruda) decided to stop AI chat-bot service (Iruda) due to issues of personal information extrusion. They also renounced the service on January 15, including the chatting Database (DB) of Iruda and a deep learning model that is used for learning. SCATTER LAB said it doesn’t mean that they will delete their AI chat system, but will strengthen the process of collecting and using personal information for new service after the reset in the future.

Iruda can talk like a human by learning over 10 billion real people’s messages. SCATTER LAB nominally collected these messages to analyze the mood and the atmosphere of one person’s relationship on the platform called “Science of Love”, and used them for Iruda’s deep learning. The problem is, although they were informed using those messages to make a new service (Iruda), people were not fully notified of the range of using its personal information. In addition, oddly enough details are found during conversations with Iruda. Someone’s name, address, and even their bank account. Now it is controversial that SCATTER LAB is only renouncing the DB of Iruda, but not DB of “Science of Love”. The last cover story in December 2019, noted that Korea’s personal information protection system isn’t fully ready enough.

Unlike the previous law, however, some loopholes seem to be filled up which were pointed out in the last cover story. The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) said that they are carrying forward to strengthen the law by increasing the fines to those who used user and customer’s personal information without notice, especially global companies such as Facebook and Google. In the marketing field nowadays, collecting DB of people is critically important for every industry to understand their future customers’ needs. It is the reason KaKao, Google, and other digital-based companies are picking up a bug to collect personalized information. Giving personal information could be a two-sided sword. It brings us convenience but also brings tragedy if that information is used in bad ways.
