On March 10, Irumi, University of Seoul (UOS) ambassador, created a new channel on Kakaotalk, holding an event of sharing free Irumae emoticons to its followers. Also, on March 17 to 18, event hosts wearing Irumae costumes appeared at Jungang-no (the central road in English) and held a photo-shoot event.
Irumae has been selected as the new mascot of UOS in January, and it is getting very famous among students. Its popularity spread even outside, so a lot of people who are not related to UOS joined the sharing event. As a result, a few students wishing for the emoticons have missed the event since the number of followers who could join was limited to about 40,000. Lee Jae-woong (Dept. of English Language and Literature, 21’), who has been successfully using the emoticon, said that it is not only adorable but also useful while chatting with his friends. However, he added that it is disappointing because the emoticon can be used only for 90 days.
Moreover, the Irumae photo-shoot event lasted only two hours each day. Consequently, many people who had other schedules or students who live far from UOS could not come and meet the mascot.
These two events, therefore, made numerous students wait for other events related to Irumae. As most components from a welcoming kit for freshmen of 2021 are designed with the character, people are all looking forward to its upcoming news.
