The newly coined term “zero-waste” is becoming a trend in Korea. After the COVID-19, the delivery service is thriving in Korea with the use of the disposable products. In this situation, people started to think about life without waste and saving the Earth.

"Give the non-disposable” campaign is started this year. It is easy to follow. You can give non-disposable container when you go to the restaurant to pick up your food. For example, when you go to a restaurant to buy your food to-go, you just give the non-disposable container (or plate) to the waiter/waitress and ask them to put your food in it – not in the disposable containers. One of the extension of this campaign – taking one’s own cup or thermos to café – is seen easily nowadays.

Moreover, there is an increasing number of places that aim for the zero-waste. There is a bar named “Zest” – which is an abbreviation for “zero-waste.” – in Seoul. The disposable wet tissue and paper towels are replaced by non-disposable towels in there. Moreover, to reduce the plastic and aluminum can waste, they make their own tonic water, coke and soda.

Indeed, it is difficult not to make any waste in daily life. However, the need to reduce waste is increasing, and there are some things that we can do step by step. Those small movement can save this Earth ultimately. This flow of movement is already started in various ways in Korea. If you want to join, pick a campaign that you inspired most and follow it would be a great step for your own “zero-waste life.”
