During the month of June, it rained 14 times, including showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, however, the rainy season has not started, but it was a result of an unstable atmosphere. The rainy season, which occurs when cold and dry air recedes, is expected to begin on Jeju Island on the July 2. The rainy season usually starts around June 19, but this year's rainy season has been delayed by about two weeks. The stagnant front leading the rainy season is expected to slowly rise, and it is expected to expand to Jeolla-do and southern regions on the July 4. Heavy rain is expected from the beginning, and also the torrential rains that occur in an instant are foreseen. Last summer, the rainy season lasted for 54 days being recorded as the longest one, causing the loss of life or injury, property damage, social and economic disruption. Hence, a lot of preparation will be needed for this rainy season.
