On September 15, the Office of Students Affairs of the University of Seoul hosted a special event to celebrate upcoming Chuseok (Thanksgiving Day, in English) holidays. UOS announced that various gifts as well as the cards from Suh Soon-tak, the University President, had been prepared to be distributed from noon until they ran out. All the students were required to bring their student identification cards to prove that they are the UOS students in order to receive the free presents.

The event was held at the square in front of the Cheonnong Hall, and the line of the students was so long that it passed around the Kyongnong Hall and the University Museum. This was because of the students who had high expectations for one of the gifts, known as the featured umbrellas with Irumae, the mascot of UOS, printed on. The popularity of this character has increased a lot since Irumi, the UOS ambassador, held the second event of distributing free Irumae emoticons through Kakaotalk on September 1. However, Student A, who began to wait in the line 30 minutes before noon that day to get the umbrella, said that he did not “love” it as the design was far from the ideal. Apparently, people like the colors of the umbrellas, which are either black or blue, but they are a little bit disappointed with the way Irumae is on; the picture of the character could have been more colorful. Still, Student A told The UOS Times that he feels thankful for the school, which had set up such a big, meaningful event for the students. UOS not only brought more than 500 umbrellas, but also prepared various flavors of Swiss rolls from Paris Baguette and some coupons of the café at the campus for students. President Suh wished everyone luck through the cards, and his message encouraged many people who have been exhausted from the prolonged pandemic. The UOS Times as well hopes everyone to enjoy holidays, but in a proper way in such situation.
