On October 7, the Korea Food Communication Forum (KOFRUM) announced the decline in physical activity of more than half of the college students. KOFRUM surveyed 460 college students to investigate how COVID-19 has affected their eating habits. More than 40 percent of the students answered that their classes are all conducted online, and that they usually stay home all day. In order to follow the quarantine rules, the students have spent most of their time inside, ordering home delivery food. As a result, 47.8 percent of the male students and 32.2 percent of the female students have gained weight according to the survey.

In other words, restriction of external activities of the students led to their unhealthiness and poor nutrition problems. Many students are tired of eating home cooked meals, so their desire for processed food and home delivery food has increased. Since there is not enough physical activity, they tend to avoid eating meals regularly as well. Such eating habits are indeed harmful to their health; it is a definite way to put themselves in danger. Therefore, in this continuous pandemic situation, college students should be aware of the risk and try to change their daily routine.

First, eating regular meals is essential for the supply of sufficient nutrition. It also helps prevent indigestion as well as obesity. Moreover, taking a walk outside for a moment or working out at home every day would be effective. Especially, at-home workouts such as yoga or simple stretches are recommended for people who are afraid of going out and contacting others. Not only college students but also many citizens’ health is negatively influenced as physical activity decreases after the spread of COVID-19. A lot of people seem to have run out of steam due to the endless pandemic, but they should revive and fight together for the end. To do so, people’s health and immunity are the most important factors. Thus, The UOS Times would like to encourage readers to begin their healthy lifestyle again.
