The Netflix original series named <Squid Game> is getting popular all over the world. Playing children’s games with the penalty of death is one of the most appreciated contents in the show. As this show went viral, games that are played by Korean children also became popular. Other than games in the show, there are many games that Korean children enjoy. The UOS Times is willing to introduce other games to readers.
"Gonggi” is a game that everyone can enjoy indoors. It is traditionally played using five small pebbles. Nowadays, children buy colorful plastic stones instead of finding proper stones to play with. There are five levels of this game, and whoever gets the target score, wins.
At level one, spread the stones on the ground and pick a stone to throw up in the air. While it is in the air, pick up one stone on the ground. Then, catch the stone in the air. These steps are repeated until all stones are caught.
From level two to three is similar to level one. However, at those levels, the player picks up the stones two/three at a time.
At level four, throw one stone in the air first. Then, places the others on the surfaces and catch the stone. Next, toss the same stone again, and pick up the four stones on the ground and catch the stone in the air.
At final level, toss the stones from the palm to the backside of the hand. However, you don’t have to land all five stones on the backside of the hand. Then, throw the stones in the air and catch. If you catch the stones, the number of stones that are caught is added to your score.
Another game to introduce is called “Ddang dda muk-ki” (ground of conquer, in English). This game is played outdoors, such as at the school playground.
To play this game, you have to draw the form on the ground. It consists of four squares and a big square in the middle that is divided into four triangles by diagonal line. After finishing the drawing, throw a stone into each box in sequence. Avoid the box that has a stone on it and step the rest boxes. There are eight boxes, and a player who finishes the sequence to the last box first gets to win.
