The scorching sun cooled down, the leaves have changed its colors and the season of autumn is at its peak. While the students at the University of Seoul (UOS) are getting alerted on their mid-term exams by the depth of autumn, all the high school seniors of South Korea are having the most important, yet the most stressful times of their lives - The nationwide university admission has begun.

Getting into university is one of the most serious issues in Korea. Students spend three years of high school, if not the whole 12 years of their adolescence, preparing to get into college. Thus, focus of attention is at every university and high school students when the annual season of university admission comes around.

This year, total 1,737 applicants will be admitted to UOS. The 806 students are planned to enter UOS through regular admission, which is approximately 46% of total. The ratio has shown a significant increase compared to that of 2018 which was 38%. The increase seems to reflect the governmental guideline to enforce regular admission. Regular admission, at which only College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) scores are evaluated, is considered fairer and more unbiased than early admission by the high school seniors, according to the research by DH NEWS. The nationwide CSAT for this year on November 18, and UOS has planned to receive the application for regular admission from December 31.

On October 9, UOS held written entrance exam responsible for the selection of 77 students. Starting this year, UOS, along with Seoul National University of Science and Technology, decided to take the exam only on the candidates who are willing to get into math and science majors. Written entrance exam has shown continuous decrease over the last few years in accordance with the suasion from the Ministry of Education.

Getting into college is bound to be one of the most stressful stages in the lives of Korean students. As painful as the process will be, The UOS Times sends each and every student the sincerest wishes for overcoming the pressure and their best performance on the admissions.
