The new Student Council "Light" began their term in office on September 17, 2021. Ryu Chang-hyun (Department of Geoinformatics, 17’) and Heo So-yoon (School of Business Administration, 18’) assumed office as the president and vice president, respectively. Their election was confirmed at the September 9 meeting of temporary representatives; the acquisition committee met until September 16. Until March of this year, the emergency committee Palette carried out the work, and the student council has been vacant since May when Palette finished its term. Soon, Comma made an attempt to occupy the space, only to resign due to suspicions about the election process. Light is now focusing on their work, which includes maintaining the student council system while establishing a activity plan for life with COVID-19. As of now, students who will serve as new members of the Student Council have been recruited. Ryu discussed his general operational plan with The UOS Times, as well as the points he wanted to emphasize.

In his inaugural statement, the president of the Student Council stated that they were deeply concerned about the significant issues confronting the school’s student community. In the absence of the Student Council, the communication between the school and the students has been deemed ineffective. It was especially true regarding issues such as business agreements with the Seoul National University of Science and Technology and the use of the dormitory as the residential treatment center. However, there were numerous obstacles in the way of the light turning green. Regarding the former student president’s alleged embezzlement case, Light summoned the Special Investigation Committee to make every effort to deal with the case. The president stated that he would make a breakthrough in this crisis by communicating with students.

Ryu laid the greatest emphasis on communication. He explained that they opened “Talk to the Student Council” and registered a ‘KakaoTalk Channel’ account under the name of the Student Council. This account also hosts its own events, which are open to all UOS students. He stated that as a member of the research team investigating the students' perception of the university’s presidential election, he was acutely aware of the lack of communication between the school and the students. In fact, with the implementation of the following pledges, personnel were assigned to resolve students’ complaints, such as fixing the passage to the back gate. Additionally, the Central Executive Committee meets with the student council to discuss issues. Ryu said, “Our goal is to induce students to feel the necessity and the presence of the student council.” The president’s important responsibility for student autonomy was made abundantly clear during the interviews.

In addition, the student council will introduce various media campaigns promoting student autonomy. Students who saw the school mascot walking around the campus on October 7 may appear in the video. In conclusion, Ryu emphasized the need for students to actively express their opinions. The UOS Times wishes all the best for the UOS student society.
