Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism(SBAU) successfully finished its third event on October 31, 2021. Begun from September 16, 2021, the exhibition took place in Dongdaemun Design Plaza(DDP), Seoul Hall of Urbanism and Architecture and Sewoon Plaza. Once in every two years, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has been holding Seoul Biennale on the issues of urbanism and architecture. Under the theme of “Crossroads, Building the Resilient City”, this year’s event was devoted on seeking for sustainable city and the futuristic type of the cities we are living in. Architects and artists from more than 100 cities of five continents showed their works on the exhibition. As well as the open space exhibition, the biennale included forums and talks in which experts in urbanism and the artists got assembled to discuss on the theme of the event. SBAU also allowed the attendees a walking tour around Seoul, along with the coordinator’s commentary. The Crossroad Tour was available in five themes. While taking walks around Seoul’s landmarks in history of its urban development, such as Eulki Hankook Building, Seoul City Hall and Cheonggyecheon, the participants could view and learn about the past and the future of ever-changing Seoul.

Two of the professors in University of Seoul Department of Architecture, Professor Choe San-ki and Professor Marc Brossa participated in planning and operation of the event as the member of the operating committee and the curator, respectively, according to the UOS WEBZINE. According to the interview, the operation committee is responsible for reviewing the series of previous events and keeping the continuity of the following event. The curator’s job is to assemble the participants to show their works and to arrange the works in accordance with the theme. 

With this year’s event successfully finished, the focus of attention is on the next event, anticipated to be held in 2023.
