In April, cherry blossoms bloom and the weather gets warmer, so it is absolutely a great time to hang out with friends and family. There are some students who go on trips over the weekend or during breaks. However, for college students, April is not all about hanging out, for April is the exam period. Students should set aside time to study for their midterm exam, shutting out the nice weather and beautiful scenery.

Where do students study during the exam preparation period? There is a variety of places to study, such as home, cafés, or study cafés. For students living near campus by themselves or in dormitories, or who want to study on the University of Seoul (UOS) campus, The UOS Times would like to recommend the Central Library as a suitable place to study on campus.

There have been several changes in the operating hours of the Central Library in accordance with COVID-19 disease control. The Central Library operated round the clock before the pandemic, and it stayed open until 10 p.m. in 2021. These days, the library is available from 7 a.m. to midnight. These are the operating hours of 0dB and 0ZONE, and for other facilities of the Central Library the operating hours may vary. Please refer to the contents below for an explanation of 0dB and 0ZONE. The central library administrator notes that operating hours are expected to be gradually increased as the social distancing policy is eased.

It is by no means difficult to use the Central Library. The seats can be reserved in the seating area in the lobby on the 1st floor and the 3rd floor. You can take your student ID card and choose the seat you want. The reading room is on the 3rd floor, and you can take the elevator there. After you are done with your reading, return the seat so that other students can use it right away. There is also a mobile app called “University of Seoul Central Library.” You can also use this app to reserve and return seats.

0dB and 0ZONE are good places to study in the UOS Central Library. Laptops are not allowed in 0dB, and it is very quiet. The atmosphere there is similar to that of high school reading rooms. Thus, 0dB is good for when you want to concentrate on studying. In 0ZONE, you may make small noises and use laptops, but you must be careful not to make loud noises or to disturb other students. It is recommended that you use a laptop only when necessary. It is a good idea to use 0ZONE when you need to use your laptop. In addition to 0dB and 0ZONE, various facilities such as resting areas and group study rooms are available. Male and female resting rooms are separated, making them even more convenient to use.

As such, the Central Library is suitable for UOS students to study. It is highly recommended that you go to the study area of your choice in accordance with your preferred study atmosphere. If you want to focus on studying calmly without using a laptop, you may choose 0dB, while if you want to use a laptop in a relatively eased atmosphere, you can choose 0ZONE.

The UOS Times hopes that students will spend the exam preparation period efficiently at the UOS Central Library and do well on their exams. Let’s Study Together at the UOS Central Library!
